And there are so many different places to go camping.
When I was a child, living in Virginia, my family did a lot of camping, nearly every weekend. The North East has some fantastic places for camping out in the wilderness. We traveled to several states, including Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and West Virginia. Sometimes it was just us, other times friends would travel with us, or other relatives and their families would be with us. Everyone would cook up something good over their campfire, and we would all gather at someone’s campsite to eat and talk, and maybe play some games. We always had a wonderful time on those camping trips. When I got to be a pre-teen, my parents and I moved to Texas, and we did not have as much time for camping. But we managed a few trips around Texas, and we did not have to travel very far to find a great place to camp.
My husband and I have been camping many times. We have slept in the back of a pickup truck (that only happened once, and it was not at all comfortable). We have slept in tents (which was much better than a truck bed), and we eventually bought a “pop-up” camper (which was the best, especially if the weather turned bad). We have even taken our pets along on some of our excursions. I don’t know that they were as thrilled with the adventure as we were, but they were with us – not staying home alone waiting on someone to come by and check on them. One memorable camping trip, when we took all of our pets (and were traveling with my parents, as well as some family friends) was actually to get away from the threat of a Hurricane. Red Cross Shelters do not permit pets. We do not leave pets (family members) behind. I was actually very worried that one of the “kids” would get out and be lost in the wilderness, but the cats were scared and just pretty much stayed hidden under the bunks. Even on this trip, as with all of our wilderness camping trips, we had a great time.
